AEF Schools Attendance and Loss of Credit Policy Summary

Why Attendance Matters
Regular school attendance is essential for academic success. At AEF Schools, we align with Broward County Public Schools policies to ensure students remain engaged and meet their educational goals.

Attendance Thresholds

  • 5 or more unexcused absences in 1 month OR
  • 10 unexcused absences in a 90-day period
= Administrative review for a pattern of non-attendance.
  • 15 unexcused absences in 90 days
= Student may be classified as a habitual truant.

Consequences of Excessive Unexcused Absences

  • Loss of academic credit in one or more courses.
  • No guarantee of makeup work for unexcused absences.
  • Possible delay in promotion or graduation eligibility.
  • Referral to student support services or external agencies if needed.

Makeup Work Policy

  • Excused Absences: Students may make up missed work within one day per day missed.
  • Unexcused Absences: Teachers are not required to offer makeup work or credit.

Appeals Process

If a student’s academic credit is at risk due to attendance:

  • Parents may submit a written appeal to school administration.
  • Documentation (doctor’s notes, emergencies) must be provided.
  • Appeals are reviewed case-by-case by the school leadership team.

AEF’s Commitment We strive to provide a supportive and structured learning environment. These policies are in place to help students develop responsibility and prepare for lifelong success.
